River Chavon facts:

The River Chavon is +- 10 minutes from the Cruise Port.

The history of this river contains very interesting passages. The origin of the name of the river is possible a corruption of the Taino name "Bomana".

The river is known to be used by pirates to hide their stolen treasures....

And the river was used in the colonial times to transport the precious wood which was cut in the forests stream upwards.

Some areas of this river provided the backdrop for the set of films like Apocalypse Now.

Do you remember the impressive film set of Apocalypse Now with Marlon Brando or the set of Rambo III? These films are shot along the River Chavon. The gorge is impressive and flows deep through the tropical jungle... Experience it now for yourself.

Itinerary:

You will be transferred from the cruise dock to the river Chavon (10 minutes). Here you will meet your guide we will board the traditional river boat. Traditional Chavon riverboatThe boat has an open bar and a basic bathroom is available. We will ride stream upwards the river Chavon. The river flows through a deep gorge and the banks are filled with tropical jungle. Lots of birds can be observed... After a cruise of 45 minutes we will reach our farm. ...... Nature, culture and fun combined ....

Taino hut at the farm - River Chavon The farm is in the middle of the jungle. High trees line the banks of the Chavon and the tropical vegetation is all around. Our yucca / fruit trail is an option for you. It will take about 20-30 minutes and you can get acquainted with the wide variety of vegetables and fruits the former inhabitants of this land, the Taino Indians used to grow. You can taste the famous Mama Juana.

We will serve typical Taino starters before we enjoy the traditional Dominican barbeque lunch with pork chops, chicken, Dominican rice, various salads, etc.

Jacuzzi high above the river Chavon After the lunch it is time to relax. The less active may dip in our jacuzzi with a tremendous view of the meadering river deep below. Or they can choose to lounge on one of the comfortable hammocks available there. There are a lot of things to do and the time is always too short!...

The guides will show you a giant Boa Constrictor, and if you dare you can hold it.....

Tarzan SwingThen its time for some action again: the Tarzan Swing above the river.... .who dares? Tarzan will show you.... Another optional program includes the canoe adventure on a little side river of the River Chavon. You will be taken deep into the jungle, navigating around the fallen trees and through the hanging lianas.

Bachata and Merengue on the boat At around 2:15pm, you will be invited to board our river boat again, and leave these wonderful, peaceful places and return to the 'civilized' world. The way back is garnished with a lot of animation.. Bachata, Merengue and Cuba Libre are on the menu... 40 minutes later we'll arrive at the 'represa' and the buses will be ready for the transfer back to the cruise port.

With this excursion all drinks are included: rum punches, cooldrinks, water.
